THE WITCH WHO CAME IN FROM THE SEA - (1976) Color/88 min
Millie Perkins, Lonny Chapman, Vanessa Brown.
This controversial American horror film directed by Matt Cimber (of Pia Zadora "Butterfly" fame) and shot by John Carpenter's cinematographer Dean Cundey concerns a dysfunctional and disturbed woman called Molly who, after suffering repeated sexual abuse at the hands of her alcoholic father, embarks on a spree of gruesome sexual encounters with men who she meets during her job as a waitress in a seaside bar. Though graphically mild by today's standards of violent depictions, the film was banned all over the world when first released. Yet when re-released finally on a limited run video edition in 2006, it was cited by one critic as is "an unsung psychological gem" among 1970s exploitation films.
